Is a Facelift painful?

Your Facelift surgery will be virtually painless during your surgery thanks to the anesthesia, and your recovery shouldn’t be too bad either. You will have some prescription medication to help your initial recovery, but many of our patients have a pretty easy healing period. You may feel a little tightness at first, which can be uncomfortable for some, but Dr. Golger will provide you with certain instructions that will make it easier for you.

Every patient will have a different recovery time, but usually, our patients will need to return for about three to six weeks for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Golger. These appointments usually take place a week after surgery, then again around every four weeks. You will always be advised when you should return after each check-up.

How long until I see results?

Once the swelling and bruises dissipate over the first few weeks, you should be able to see an incredible difference from before your surgery, however, most patients won’t see their full results until about six months post-surgery. Once your face has settled into its natural resting position, you will be able to enjoy the results for an average of ten or more years.

What is Facelift?

What’s the First Step?

The first step to getting a facelift in Scottsdale with Dr. Golger is to book your consultation. In order to get the most out of your consultation, you will want to prepare your questions ahead of time and do a bit of research. When you come in for your appointment, you will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Golger who will go over your medical history, the appearance you would like to achieve, and other details to make sure you are prepared. He will craft a surgical plan that he believes is best for you and if you agree with him, you will schedule your appointment with our Patient Coordinator, who will also give you some instructions to follow for a good surgery.

When discussing your medical history, we encourage you to be honest with Dr. Golger. Being open and truthful with him reduces the potential for negative reactions and the safest and best possible results.

What to Expect on the Day of Facelift

On the day of your Facelift, you will first be administered general anesthesia to make your experience more tolerable. Dr. Golger will begin making an incision near the temple, just above and in front of the ear. It will continue under the earlobe and follow the back of your ear, blending into the hairline. The skin is gently lifted as he repositions and tightens the underlying muscle and connective tissue. Some fat may be removed, as well as excess skin. For men, the incision is aligned to accommodate the natural beard lines. In all cases, the incisions are placed where they will fall in a natural crease of the skin to appear camouflaged.

After trimming the excess skin, the surgeon closes the incisions with fine sutures and/or metal clips. This will permit precise surgery and avoid shaving hair in the incision sites. Depending on the extent of the surgery, the process can take from two to four hours.

Following the surgery, the surgeon will apply a dressing to protect the entire area where the incisions have been made. The actual placement of incisions varies from patient to patient and is dependent on the surgeon’s judgment of that patient.

Facelift Recovery

After your surgery, Dr. Golger will loosely wrap your face with a bandage to minimize swelling and bruising. He may also temporarily leave small tubes in the incisions that help drain any excess blood or fluid that will collect as your heal.

You should be able to return to work within 10 – 14 days, depending on how you are healing and how you are feeling. There will still be some swelling and bruising present, but it will get better over time and can usually be well disguised with a good application of makeup. Once the incisions have healed, they will be concealed within your hairline and the natural contours of your face.
